EASY STEP BY STEP PROCESS TO APPLY OCI CARD FOR YOUR MINOR/NEW BORN CHILD

TAKE PHOTOS AND FINGERPRINTS:

1. Go to CVS and get a passport picture taken. Print at least 4 copies.
2. Use GeniusScan or some other scanning app on your phone and scan the photograph. Send the scanned copy to your email in Small Size JPEG format.
3. Create a Folder in your computer called ‘OCI’ and under that create another folder called ‘<insert Child Name> OCI Application’ eg: ‘Zainab OCI Application’

1. Now Download the scanned photograph from your email and save it in this folder as ‘<Child Name>OCI-Photo’
2. Take the left thumb impression of the minor child on a white sheet of paper. Use black marker ink to take the thumb impression.
3. Using GeniusScan or any other scanning app on your phone, scan the fingerprint of the applicant. Then email it to yourself and crop it in rectangle shape using the paint app on your desktop. Save this image as ‘<Child Name>OCI-FingerPrint’ under the ‘<Child Name> OCI Application’ folder.

ONLINE APPLICATION FORM:

1. Fill the park A of the application at https://ociservices.gov.in/

1. Upload the photograph and the fingerprint images that we saved earlier and proceed to Part B of the application.
2. Fill out part B of the online application and submit the application.
3. Note down the Application ID.
4. Print out the complete application.
5. Take applicant’s fingerprint on the first page inside the box and the last page at the applicant’s signature
6. Parents do not sign the form yet. Parents need to sign the form in front of the notary public.
7. Affix a photo on the Application Form print out.
8. Download and fill out the Parental Authorization Form by hand writing, but do not sign it yet. In the ‘Capacity’ field write ‘Parents’. This form should be signed by both or either parent in front of Notary Public.

NOTARIZE:

1. Both Mom and Dad should go to the bank to notarize the application form and sign the application in the presence of the notary public. Enter date and place also.
2. Notarize Parent Authorization Form while signing in the presence of the notary public. Either or both parents can sign this form.
3. Scan the Parental Authorization Form, you would need this to upload online.

PREPARE DOCUMENT TO UPLOAD:

1. Create a folder called ‘Docs to Upload’ under ‘Zainab OCI Application’

1. Scan the documents below in a single PDF and save it as ‘Current-Passport’ in your ‘Docs to Upload’ folder.
2. Applicant’s passport — Only information page
3. Applicant’s Birth Certificate
4. Mom’s I-797/EAD/Greencard
5. Dad’s I-797/EAD/Greencard
6. Scan the documents below in a single PDF and save it as ‘Relationship-Certificate’ in your ‘Docs to Upload’ folder.
7. Mom’s passport, First 3 and last 2 pages
8. Dad’s passport, First 3 and last 2 pages
9. Birth Certificate of the applicant
10. Parental Authorization Form after notary
11. Scan the parents’ Marriage-Certificate in PDF format and save it as ‘Marriage Certificate’ in your ‘Docs to Upload’ folder.
12. The contents of your ‘Docs to Upload’ folder should look like this

UPLOAD DOCUMENTS ONLINE:

1. Now go back to the OCI portal https://ociservices.gov.in/welcome, Click on OCI Document Upload/Re-upload and upload the 3 pdf documents that we prepared earlier.

2. Select ‘Current Passport’, ‘Relationship Documents’ and ‘Marriage Certificate’ as upload categories accordingly.

3. Now click on ‘Final Submit’ button.

COMPLETE MAIL-IN APPLICATION REGISTRATION PROCESS AND PAY FEES

You need to follow the below steps to complete the mail-in application submission process.

1. Create a profile and register on the VFS portal system and click on Apply Now to complete the subsequent steps:

1. Choose the correct state of Residence as per the Consular Jurisdiction and correct passport category as per your purpose of visit.
2. Choose Mode of Submission as Postal. Note: VFS Indian Consular Application Centres are not accepting applications in person due to COVID -19.
3. After payment, download the Courier Labels on your phone.

PREPARE DOCUMENTS FOR THE PACKAGE:

1. Print a copy of Checklist
2. Take a copy of either parent’s driver’’s license and self attest it.
3. Take copies of both parents I-797/EAD/Green-card and self attest it.
4. Take copies of both parents Passports (first 3 and last 2 pages) and self attest it
5. Take a copy of the Applicant’s passport (only info page) and the parent should attest it.
6. Take a copy of Parents’ Marriage Certificate
7. Take a copy of the Applicant’s Birth Certificate and the parent should attest it.

SUBMIT YOUR PHYSICAL APPLICATION TO VFS

1. Take all the above documents (that we made copies) along with Applicant’s Original Passport (see note below) and Original Application Form and go to FedEx.

Note: Please check the checklist whether it is mandatory to send original passport, sometimes VFS does not require Original Passport to be sent for issuing new OCI. Please send original passport only if it is mentioned in the checklist

1. FedEx will ask you to attach the courier labels in email and send it to them so that they can print.
2. Send the package.
